I am intrigued by the complexity of life. I believe that this complexity arises from simple fundamental principles. We need to understand these principles to get a grip on the logic of life. During my doctoral research I was interested in teasing out the mechanisms of toxicity in neurodegenerative diseases. I used biophysical (single molecule spectroscopy), imaging (label-free multiphoton) and cell culture/hiPSC methods to probe the reasons behind vulnerability of specific types of neurons in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. My other key interest lies in the neurobiology of mood regulation. At present, I am interested in the nanoscopic organization of neurotransmitter transporter using single-molecule fluorescence and super- resolution microscopy. I am extremely keen on science writing and science communication.
